In recent years, the prevalence of maternal obesity in the United States has risen dramatically. The obese pregnant woman is at greater risk for pregnancy complications compared with her ideal weight counterpart. In addition, maternal obesity can adversely impact the health of the woman’s fetus, newborn and child’s health later in life.
