Title: F5 - The Future Has Arrived – Personalizing Healthcare By Exploring The Codebook Of Life
Disciplines: Advanced Practice (AP), Professional Issues (PI), Women’s Health (WH)
Learning Objectives:
- Identify genetic red flags within a family history
- Integrate inheritance patterns and risk assessment concepts into the interpretation of a 3 generation pedigree
- Appraise individual and family risk for inherited disease based on genetic information
This interactive session begins by reviewing key points in assessing risk through the family pedigree (red flags and common inheritance patterns). The focus then shifts to a live online exploration of 4 individual genomes, examining the way one genetic testing company presents results to their customers, and how individuals respond to this highly personal healthcare information. Case studies and videos will be used to highlight some of the ethical and clinical challenges confronting both patients and providers in the era of genomic healthcare.
