Title: E3 - The Powerful Effects Of Oxytocin: The Good, Bad & Ugly

Learning Objectives:
  1. List 3 indications for oxytocin usage and discuss a physiologic approach to oxytocin management.
  2. Identify maternal and fetal complications associated with the use of oxytocin and common areas of litigation related to oxytocin use.
  3. Describe initiatives to promote safe oxytocin use in the perinatal setting.
Submission Description:
This presentation will highlight the powerful effects of Oxytocin, including the beneficial (good), adverse (bad) and devastating (ugly) effects associated with the use of this drug. Additionally, initiatives to empower nurses to reduce harm and liability related to the use of this medication will be discussed. Engagement of the session participants will be enhanced by the use of an audience participation system.
