H2 - Closing the Gap Between Evidence and Practice in Preventing VTE in Maternal Patients
Title: H2 - Closing the Gap Between Evidence and Practice in Preventing VTE in Maternal Patients
Disciplines: Childbearing (CB)
Learning Objectives:

  - Identify risk factors for development of venous thromboembolism during pregnancy .
- Review preventative VTE measures for maternal patients including chemical and mechanical prophylaxis.
- Discuss discharge procedures for maternal patients to prevent readmission related to venous thromboembolism.
For pregnant women, venous thromboembolism (VTE) risks 4-5 times higher than women who are not pregnant. Risk at least twice as much following cesarean delivery. For improved patient safety, close gap between evidence and practice to identify at-risk patients, use preventative measures, and ensure safe discharge. VTE prevention checklist recently developed by health experts, including those representing organizations from ACOG, CDC, IHI, Joint Commission, and SMFM, and well-respected hospitals from Australia,Canada, and United States.
