Title: H1 - Evidenced Based Care of Women with Diabetes: Advancing Practice during Preconception, Pregnancy and Postpartum

Learning Objectives:
- Describe preconception interventions appropriate for a woman planning a pregnancy with a history of overt or gestational diabetes.
- Discuss evidence based interventions for achieving positive maternal and newborn outcomes for women with pregnancies complicated by diabetes.
- Discuss monitoring and health promotion for postpartum women with a history of diabetes during pregnancy.
Care of women with pregnancies complicated by diabetes requires knowledge of recent evidence regarding care during the preconception period, pregnancy and postpartum. Essential skills include management of medications, nutrition, exercise, psychosocial risk and assisting women with problem solving skills. This presentation will focus on preconception, pregnancy and postpartum management in order to assure positive maternal and newborn outcomes. Additionally, health promotion to enhance health outcomes beyond the childbearing year will be addressed.
