- Apply the CDC Medical Eligibility Criteria recommendations towards effective contraceptive counseling to new mothers
Healthcare providers are faced with challenges in providing effective contraception for the new mother as careful consideration is needed for women who are breastfeeding, have co-morbidities (e.g., hypertension), and social economic barriers. The purpose of this presentation is to equip women’s health nurses with vital information regarding the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Medical Eligibility Criteria (MEC) for Contraceptive Use, to guide with providing proper contraceptive counseling to women in the postpartum period.
