  1. Describe two areas of preterm infant brain development and the implications for care of the high-risk infant and family.
  2. Identify two or three individualized interventions to meet the needs of a preterm infant and family based on a developmental assessment.
  3. Describe two strategies for overcoming barriers to integration of family centered developmental care into routine procedures and practices in the NICU.
Submission Description:
This pre-convention session will provide an overview of preterm infant brain development as the basis for integration of family-centered developmental care in the NICU. Research evidence will be used to facilitate choosing individualized interventions to meet infant and family needs and support best outcomes. Implementation of targeted interventions will be discussed as well as strategies for overcoming barriers to integration.
