Discipline: Childbearing (CB), Newborn Care (N), Professional Issues (PI), Women’s Health (WH)

Learning Objectives:
  • Recognize barriers that inhibit a culture of safety
  • Identify three methods that can be used in an interdisciplinary fashion to enhance a culture of safety in the obstetric setting
  • Develop an evidence based framework using a multidisciplinary approach that improves a culture of safety within the obstetrical unit

  • Submission Description:
At New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, a lack of an optimal safety environment has caused unsafe behaviors/conditions to be present, but not always identified or acted upon before harm. This has led to necessary implementation of safety measures to improve the culture of safety within our obstetrical department. With this, the purpose of our presentation will be to demonstrate the successful implementation of an innovative program to improve the culture of safety within the obstetrical unit.
