  • Describe how department resources can be predicted using data from an acuity staffing tool.

  • Submission Description:
The art of scheduling Perinatal nursing staff is challenging in a specialty where census and acuity are highly unpredictable. A small community hospital was facing decreasing revenue and increased cost due to healthcare reform. The Perinatal unit incorporated an acuity tool into their daily nursing assignment sheet and achieved financial savings, safe patient care as defined by meeting AWHONN guidelines , exceeded productivity benchmarks, and improved nursing satisfaction.
