Discipline: Newborn Care (N)

Learning Objectives:
  • List three benefits of Complete Couplet Care
  • Describe three strategies for implementation of Complete Couplet Care
  • Identify three outcomes that indicate the effectiveness of Complete Couplet Care

  • Submission Description:
Recognizing that the best place for a stable newborn is with its mother, the care team on the BirthPlace formed a task force to revise our workflow and processes to facilitate Complete Couplet Care. This workflow revision focused on bringing care of the mother baby dyad to the bedside, minimizing separation of mom and baby and maximizing time for bonding, breastfeeding and teaching. Results include decreased birth to breast time and increased patient satisfaction scores.
