Discipline: Professional Issues (PI)

Learning Objectives:
  • The learner will describe the application of the plan-do-study-act method of quality improvement
  • The learner will define the characteristics of those at risk for SSI related to cesarean section.
  • The learner will describe the iterative process of defining the population characteristics and context of care variables and their link to evidence based practice

  • Submission Description:
Surgical site infections in the obstetrical population have increased due to co morbidities of our patient population. Decreasing this postpartum complication requires multidisciplinary approach to care across the continuum of care. Evaluating evidence based practice to your process of care and ensuring that interventions are culturally relevant and achievable will impact your patient outcomes. Utilizing rapid cycle improvement processes linked to environment and patient characteristics can yield a significant decrease in readmissions.
