Learning Objectives:
  • Identify key opportunities to provide multiple comfort modalities to enhance the obstetrical patient experience
  • Describe methods to educate staff and implement programs to improve patient experience
  • Formulate a framework which supports and encourages nurses to provide evidence based comfort modalities including aromatherapy, acupressure, waterbirth/watertherapy, guided imagery, positioning and pain videos

  • Submission Description:
    Providing an exemplary experience for our obstetrical patients is a key outcome of our care. We developed and implemented key programs for nurses to provide focusing on patient's comfort utilizing multiple modalities to enhance their experience. Some of these modalities include the following: comfort menus, aromatherapy, water therapy/birth, pain/labor videos, positioning in labor, acupressure, guided imagery at the bedside.

    The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
