Longhorn Hall D (Gaylord Grapevine)
Jamecia George, BSN, RNC-OB , Labor & Delivery, Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, TX
Kristine DeButy, BSN, RNC-OB , Labor and Delivery, Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, TX

Discipline: Women’s Health (WH)

Learning Objectives:
  • Discuss opportunities in the admission process
  • Identify steps necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to successfully implement the pre-admit nurse role or process
  • Engage a multidisciplinary team in creating a process that improves the quality and safety of care delivered for scheduled cases.

  • Submission Description:
A multidisciplinary team at Baylor University Medical Center identified the need to improve the admission process for scheduled procedures. Multiple variables were identified that contributed to an inefficient process. Implementation of a comprehensive pre-admission role led to improved patient safety and increased nurse/physician satisfaction. The pre-admission process created a checklist type system that guarantees all necessary components are met prior to the patient arriving for care, thus providing safe, efficient, quality care.
