Longhorn Hall D (Gaylord Grapevine)
Jill Hughes, MSN, RN, RNC-OB , Canadian Valley Hospital, INTEGRIS Health, Yukon, OK

Discipline: Obstetric (OB)

Learning Objectives:
  • List the current CMS sepsis core measure requirements related to the perinatal population and challenges to early identification.
  • Review collaboration and methodology involved in creation of an OB specific sepsis identification tool
  • State elements of final OB sepsis tool and review implementation, outcomes, and future work.

  • Submission Description:
The purpose of this presentation is to follow the journey of a multi-facility hospital system in their journey to identify an appropriate methodology for early identification of sepsis in the perinatal population. With the new CMS requirements for reporting severe sepsis and septic shock as a 2016 Core Measure and challenges this creates in the obstetric population, a need was identified to create a team approach to the development of an OB specific tool.
