Title: Maternal Fetal Transport: One States Journey to Standardization and Quality

Longhorn Hall D (Gaylord Grapevine)
Elizabeth A McIntire, RN, MSN, WHNP-C, C-EFM , Riley Hosptial for Children, Indiana University Health, Indianapolis, IN

Discipline: Obstetric (OB), Professional Issues (PI)

Learning Objectives:
  • identify potential safety issues based on the Indiana transport survey results
  • list at least three advantages of maternal fetal interfacility transport vs neonatal transport
  • List specific strategies to improve the quality and safety of maternal fetal transport in their practice setting

  • Submission Description:
Standards for adult, pediatric and neonatal critical care transport have been well described in the literature and by professional organizations. However, standards that apply to the acute interfacility transport of high risk pregnant patients have not enjoyed the same about of attention. Three years ago, the Indiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative subcommittee on maternal fetal and neonatal transport set out to define standards and quality metrics that pertain to these subspecialty transports. This presentation will highlight one states’ journey to define standards of patient care and quality metrics when transporting high risk pregnant women to a higher level of perinatal care.
