Longhorn Hall D (Gaylord Grapevine)
Barrett J. Larson, MD , Leaf Healthcare, Pleasanton, CA
Diane Mejia, RN , Desert Valley Medical Center, Victorville, CA
Talitha Marquez, RN , Desert Valley Medical Center, Victorville, CA
Patrick Reinhard, RN , Desert Valley Medical Center, Victorville, CA

Discipline: Obstetric (OB)

Learning Objectives:
  • Understand risk factors for prolonged labor, instrumental delivery, and C-Section
  • Review benefits of maternal movement and repositioning during labor
  • Develop strategies for improving patient movement and positioning during labor

  • Submission Description:
We implemented a novel program that involved using a wearable patient sensor to continuously monitor the movement and position of our laboring patients. By ensuring frequent repositioning, the technology helped reduce our C-section rate from 37% to 21% (p<0.05).
