Title: F1 - Leading Change: Leadership Competencies for Healthcare: I Have to Know What?!

Disciplines: Obstetric (OB), Neonatal (N), Professional Issues (PI), Women’s Health (WH)

Learning Objectives:
  • 1. Describe the Perfect Storm occurring in healthcare.
  • 2. Identify the challenges in developing new nurse leaders.
  • 3. Describe the best practices of leadership competencies - as identified in the literature.

  • Submission Description:
Current state (Point A): healthcare is changing. Opportunities exist for nurse leaders at all levels and in all settings. Leaders are overwhelmed by sheer volume of expected competencies - some meaningful, some not. Future desired state (Point B): nurses answered the Institute of Medicine's call to step up and lead. They are competent in their roles, participate effectively and influence others profoundly. Come figure out how to get from Point A to Point B.
