Title: A2 - Inside the Preemie Parent Perspective: Addressing the Special Needs of a Diverse Population

Disciplines: Obstetric (OB), Neonatal (N), Women’s Health (WH)

Learning Objectives:
  • Identify specific psychosocial needs of different subpopulations of NICU parents
  • Analyze the long-term impact and implications for families experiencing a traumatic birth and NICU stay
  • Provide specific strategies and resources to support families in the NICU

  • Submission Description:
It is human nature to "relate" to and take care of those we view as being most like us. However, choosing your patients is not an option. This interactive panel discussion, with leaders of NICU Parent Support Organizations, will explore the specific psychosocial needs of high risk mothers and NICU parents to uncover common barriers of communication and how to overcome those barriers to improve outcomes.
