Title: I3 - Protocols and Guidelines Used in the Interpretation of Uterine Activity and FHR Patterns - Help or Hindrance?

Learning Objectives:
  • Interpretation of tachysystole/hypertonus with and without uterine pressure catheter and physiological changes in fetus from same.
  • Provide an understanding of rules/regulations/pitocin protocols are used in setting forth standards of care for contraction monitoring as well as fetal heart rate tracings in litigation.
  • Identify the difference between safety rules and standard of care in the management of both obstetrical as well as other nursing patients

    • Submission Description:
    My presentation will discuss the significance of policies, procedures, and protocols v. safety rules in the interpretation of fetal heart rate tracings and the use of pitocin. Tachysystole and hypertonus will be addressed and their potential adverse effects on fetal status. I will also address litigation issues stemming from contractions.
