Title: I2 - Healthcare Equity: Advocating for Moms & Babies

Disciplines: Obstetric (OB), Neonatal (N), Professional Issues (PI), Women’s Health (WH)

Learning Objectives:
  • Define healthcare disparities and the impact on moms and newborns.
  • Describe the components of healthcare equity.
  • Describe institutional and individual strategies to be a champion for healthcare equity.

  • Submission Description:
    Healthcare equity efforts focus on increasing the awareness of racial and ethnic health disparities and the social determinants of health. The components include: Cultural Competence, Language Access, Health Literacy, and Healthcare Disparities. This session will describe the impact of healthcare disparity on individuals/society and address the overarching linkages to maternal and infant morbidity/mortality. The maternal child health nurse will receive healthcare equity strategies to help eliminate healthcare disparities.
