H4 - Secrets of the Preterm Fetal Heart Rate Tracing: Clinical Recommendations for Interpretation and Management

Title: H4 - Secrets of the Preterm Fetal Heart Rate Tracing: Clinical Recommendations for Interpretation and Management

Disciplines: Obstetric (OB)

Learning Objectives:
  • Discuss normal physiological characteristics of the preterm fetal heart rate
  • Describe current interpretation and management guidelines for the preterm fetus
  • Recognize common pharmacologic effects of medications on the preterm fetal heart rate tracing.

  • Submission Description:
In recent years, preterm labor rates at <34 weeks have remained largely unchanged while women with co-morbidities requiring early delivery has increased. Consequently, perinatal care has evolved into focusing more attention on the preterm fetal heart rate (FHR). During this session, a standardized approach will be utilized to discuss the physiological complexity of the preterm FHR via the oxygenation pathway, FHR interpretation, pharmacologic impact on the FHR and management principles that can optimize perinatal outcomes.
