Disciplines: Obstetric (OB), Professional Issues (PI)
Learning Objectives:
Submission Description:
With the continued rise in maternal morbidity and mortality in the United States, many groups have recommended programs to regionalize and improve care for the critically ill obstetric woman. However, there are no current programs that outline how to operationalize care. This presentation will outline education, simulation, and strategies to prepare nurses to care for critically ill pregnant women. Emphasis will be placed on a collaborative model of care in an obstetric unit, the role of the OB nurse, education, and systems/processes that need to be developed prior to implementation.
