Title: C4 - Finding Solutions for Early Diagnosis and Treatment of Ovarian Cancer: Nanotechnology, Genomics, Biomarkers, and More
Disciplines: Women’s Health (WH), Advanced Practice (AP)
Learning Objectives:
- Review the trends in diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer in that last 30 years.
- Explore new treatments and screening tools that have recently been introduced or are currently under investigation.
- Examine strategies for translating new evidence for screening and treatment into practice.
Ovarian cancer is the fifth-leading cause of cancer deaths in women often due to detection late in the disease process. Incidence in younger women and ethnic minorities appears to be increasing and the death rate has remained unchanged for over 30 years. Increased public awareness and a national agenda to emphasize ovarian cancer research (Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, 2007) has lead to a number of newly proposed treatments and screening tools to combat this deadly disease. This presentation will provide an update on recent ovarian cancer research intended to improve the outcomes for women at risk.
