Title: G5 - Eating Disorders and Body Image Issues In Midlife Women

Disciplines: Women’s Health (WH), Advanced Practice (AP)

Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify barriers to the diagnosis of eating disorders in midlife women.
  2. Describe criteria for diagnosis of anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder.
  3. List 2 differences between eating disorders in midlife women and eating disorders in younger women.
Submission Description:
Most eating disorders are diagnosed in young women. However cultural influences affect women of all ages and studies show that dieting and body image dissatisfaction has increased dramatically in midlife women who have the added pressure to not only remain thin as they age but to stay youthful in their appearance.
