Health care providers now recognize that of the 6-10% of teen girls with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), most have serious health issues affecting them on multiple levels – reproductive health, disfiguring body changes, and lifelong health consequences from metabolic disorders. Psycho-social needs, often as profound as physiologic, are ill-addressed by many providers. Frequently these teens look outside the health care system for guidance. This session will explore ways to increase nursing support for these teens.
