H2 - There's Something In the Water: Diving Into Amniotic Fluid Abnormalities
Disciplines: Childbearing (CB), Advanced Practice (AP)
Learning Objectives:
- Review basic concepts of amniotic fluid dynamics.
- Differentiate two types of amniotic fluid volume abnormalities.
- Identify current treatment modalities for oligohydramnios and polyhydramnios.
During pregnancy, the topic of amniotic fluid is rarely considered unless there is an abnormality. In fact, amniotic fluid was once considered a stagnant pool with specific “water hazards”. We’ll set the pace by reviewing amniotic fluid dynamics, then dive into discussing two abnormalities, oligohydramnios and polyhydramnios. In the final heat, the lane judge will present case studies that highlight key concepts so that participants can make a splash while caring for these high-risk patients.
