Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the incidence and significance of complications from hypertension in pregnancy.
- Explain the pathophysiologic response associated with cerebrovascular accident, pulmonary edema, liver hematoma, and /or cardiovascular collapse associated with preeclampsia.
- Formulate management strategies for the critically ill obstetric patient with complications of hypertension in pregnancy.
Complications from hypertension in pregnancy are a signficant cause of maternal mortality. This presentation will detail such hypertension related complications as cerebrovascular accident, pulmonary edema, liver hematoma, and/or cardiovascular collapse. Current evaluation and management modalities will be discussed through a case study approach.
