H5 - Are You My Mother? AreYou My Father? An Exploration of the Nurse's Role In Caring for Surrogates, Gestational Carriers and Intended Parents

Learning Objectives:
- Differentiate gestational carriers and surrogates.
- Appraise the current environment legally, professionally and ethically for nurses caring for surrogates and gestational carriers.
- Summarize the opportunities available for nurses to integrate intended parents into the obstetric and pediatric healthcare period.
New developments in reproductive health coupled with changes in the concept and acquisition of pregnancy have led to new and different routes to parenthood. This program will focus on “intended parents”, those who engage with surrogacy or gestational carriers, and nursing care for this often overlooked population. In addition, professional, ethical, legal and logistical dilemmas will be addressed.
