A3 - Improving Care for Opioid-Dependent Pregnant Women and Their Newborns

Learning Objectives:
- State methods for managing opioid-addicted women during pregnancy and the post-partum period.
- Give examples of therapuetic interventions used to manage neonatal opioid withdrawal including out-patient management of newborns with neonatal abstinence syndrome.
- Discuss clinical outcomes for opioid-exposed newborns.
This session will provide information to improve opioid management for pregnant women and their infants by sharing information about Vermont's unique program. Opioid-dependent pregnant women are screened and treated in a collaborative approach by high-risk obstetrics, neonatology follow-up, and addiction medicine. Ten years of experience with an emphasis on out-patient management of newborns with neonatal abstinence syndrome will be presented.
