PC2 - Diabetes In Pregnancy-Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational Diabetes: What You Need to Know

Learning Objectives:
  1. Use current terminology as defined by the National Diabetes Group Classification.
  2. Discuss the impact obesity has on the development of Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  3. Identify the relationship between maternal glucose levels and neonatal outcomes.
Submission Description:
This workshop will encompass the care of the pregnant woman who has diabetes in pregnancy: types 1 and 2 as well as gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Content will include discussion of pathophysiology; and antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum management of each type. The reasons for self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG), current recommendations for tight control and currently available glucose meters will be reviewed. Exploration of the types and functions of insulin therapies and the growing use of insulin pumps will provide an overview of current therapies. Controversies over the diagnosis and treatment of GDM will be discussed. Join us for this stimulating and highly informative workshop.
