PC7 - Perinatal Mental Health: Clinical Presentations, Causes, Treatment, Prevention and Systems Issues

Learning Objectives:
  1. Discuss identification and screening issues in perinatal mental health care.
  2. Describe recommended interventions for women experiencing perinatal mental health disorders.
  3. Differentiate strategies for providing perinatal mental health care in a variety of health care settings.
Submission Description:
This workshop will provide a comprehensive look at perinatal mental health from both the clinical and systems perspective. Faculty will provide an overview of phenomenology, etiology, and identification and screening issues. Interventions including psychotherapy and medications will be addressed, along with prevention strategies such as mindfulness-based cognitive therapy. Interactive and participatory discussion will address care in a variety of settings: community, integrated obstetrical services, and neonatal units.
