- Examine the impact of Group B streptococci on neonatal infectious morbidity and mortality.
- Determine the appropriate prophylactic treatment based on the 2010 CDC revised guidelines.
- Dicuss nursing care implications of GBS prophylaxis and treatment for the intrapartum patient.
This session will discuss Group B streptococcus (GBS) screening and prophylactic treatment recognizing the 2010 revised guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The impact of the 2002 guideline implementation will be explored as well as the specific components changed since 2002 and the implications to patient care.
