Learning Objectives:
- Discuss chemicals commonly used in healthcare which have been shown to be harmful.
- List ways to evaluate the environmental and human safety of chemicals and common practices.
- Describe how to develop a green team task force and implement unit changes.
Parents, patients and staff are listening to the "green" trend and looking to healthcare providers for information. Hospitals are searching for ways to provide healthier, safer products and procedures and obstetrics provides the optimum opportunity for eco-friendly practices. Education of new parents affects the health of a family; and healthcare providers can be leaders in creating safer, healthier communities.
