Learning Objectives:
- Describe three labor support strategies to promote pain relief and physiologic labor progression.
- Demonstrate three physiologic maternal positions and their relative advantages during labor and birth.
- Discuss the current recommendations for the nursing management of 2nd stage labor.
The focus of this seminar is the use of non-pharmacologic, complementary pain management strategies and maternal positioning and movement to facilitate labor progress. All content is evidence-based with references to current literature and research. Hands-on participation and small group work will be included to generate ideas for implementing these strategies into current nursing practice.
