Learning Objectives:
- Identify factors that determine the safety of medications used during lactation.
- Identify neonatal outcomes associated with maternal selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor therapy.
- Identify issues of medication safety in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Content for this 4-hour workshop will include current information on medication safety and breast feeding, the neonatal effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor use during pregnancy, an update on off-label use of medications in neonates, and drug therapy in the neonatal intensive care unit. In addition, participants will explore strategies for implementation of best practices in drug therapy.
