  2. Differentiate between the various levels of evidence that support individual risks/ benefits
  3. Discuss specific situations/cases when, based on the evidence, pacifier usage may or may not be indicated
Submission Description:
Pacifier usage is controversial and published recommendations contradictory. The purpose of this literature review was to provide a comprehensive summary of risks and benefits of pacifier usage based upon the highest levels of evidence available, and provide a reference for nurses to utilize while assisting mothers in making an informed decision. The relative strength of the evidence and specific situations when pacifiers should be recommended or discouraged will be discussed.
