  • Describe the evidence based changes in practice across the continuum of perinatal care that support the ten steps to successful breast feeding.
  • Describe strategies used to promote patient and family education to make informed decisions regarding methods and techniques that support optimal infant feeding.
  • Describe strategies used to promote the integration of professional education into practice and measures to support sustainability of practice changes.

  • Submission Description:
    This presentation focuses on the role of a nursing-led interdisciplinary team in driving a quality improvement initiative in translating evidence-based practice changes to promote successful breastfeeding throughout the organization. The processes of practice change, professional education, patient education, and culture change to support the ten steps to successful breastfeeding will be discussed. Outcomes include improvements in measures including breastfeeding initiation and exclusivity, rooming-in, cue feeding and positive impacts on mothers at-risk due to disparities.

    The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
