Learning Objectives:
  • The learner will be able to utilize a nursing needs assessment to ascertain nursing knowledge of oxytocin management.
  • The learner will be able to articulate the three benefits of educating staff on oxytocin management.
  • The learner will be able to construct an educational pathway for oxytocin management.

  • Submission Description:
    A knowledge deficit was recognized regarding the nurse’s ability to interpret and intervene with dysfunctional labor patterns which led to inconsistency in oxytocin management. A four-hour oxytocin class was presented including pharmacology of oxytocin, procedures for induction, uterine response to oxytocin and the use of nursing interventions for dysfunctional labor patterns.
