Learning Objectives:
  • The participant will understand the relevance of teaching LGBT issues in nursing education.
  • The participant will identify components of a lesbian family case study.
  • The participant will apply various teaching strategies using a lesbian family case study in nursing education.

  • Submission Description:
    This innovative program encompasses a lesbian family case study presented to nursing students to explore issues related to gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation to increase student self-awareness and promote compassionate, culturally competent care. The students will attend a seminar on lesbian health disparities, complete a genogram, analyze prenatal/family history, and participate in a simulation experience. Participants will increase their knowledge of teaching strategies in educational settings to promote awareness of LGBT issues.
