Learning Objectives:
  • To summarize elements to improve the care of the substance-exposed infant and family
  • Describe the specific tools used in this project to improve the consistency of neonatal abstinence scoring of the clinical staff
  • Describe the purpose of attending the Pregnancy Support Group meetings at the local methadone clinic

  • Submission Description:
    In an effort to improve the care provided to our substance-exposed newborns, the leadership team and staff utilized the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) process to improve the consistency of neonatal abstinence scoring and, patient education as well as improve parental involvement. One unique component of our program that originated from the LSS process is staff nurses attending the Pregnancy Support Group at the local methadone clinic.
