  • Review of Sharp HealthCare's quest to become a High Reliability Organization (HRO) and what being an HRO means in health care
  • Understand the process for developing and implementing Patient Safety Huddles to improve the culture of safety
  • Verbalize outcomes as a result of implementing Patient Safety Huddles and gather ideas for leading change in patient and employee safety

  • Submission Description:
    The Patient Safety & Quality Outcomes Council implemented interdisciplinary Patient Safety Huddles to improve the culture of safety. Outcomes include ratings on Feedback and Communication about Errors on the 2015 AHRQ Culture of Safety Survey from 69% to 73% positive, a 66% increase in reporting of near miss events, and a decrease in the number of harmful events. The impact of Patient Safety Huddles was recognized by a 2015 Sharp HealthCare Core Award.
