Discipline: Obstetric (OB), Women’s Health (WH)

Learning Objectives:
  • List three benefits of an Obstetric Hemorrhage Protocol
  • Describe three strategies for implementation of an Obstetric Hemorrhage Protocol
  • Identify three outcomes that indicate the effectiveness of an Obstetrical Hemorrhage Protocol

  • Submission Description:
Obstetrical (OB) hemorrhage is a potentially preventable postpartum complication yet remains a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity in the United States. This community hospital was identified as having a higher observed to expected ratio of obstetrical hemorrhage as compared to similar organizations in the state. An interprofessional task force was formed to assess current processes and to plan, implement and evaluate an obstetrical hemorrhage protocol customized for this facility.
