Learning Objectives:
  • List evidenced based theories utilized to correct cultural misalignment and facilitate organizational change.
  • Define Cultural Misalignment and list factors involved in the phenomena and symptoms seen with misalignment
  • Define culture of continuous learning and the impact that becoming a learning culture has on organizational effectiveness

  • Submission Description:
The impetus for this quality improvement project stemmed from a perinatal unit in crisis as a result of misalignment between organizational culture and execution of a strategic vision to expand perinatal services. This produced a culture of mistrust, poor staff engagement, excessive RN turnover, and abysmal patient satisfaction scores. Informed by an organizational assessment, a theory-driven, multiphase process improvement for the cultural misalignment was implemented, resulting in cultural transformation to a culture of continuous learning.
