Sunday, June 12, 2016

Title: Using a Cell Phone Application to Increase RN Confidence and Compliance with Policies

Longhorn Hall D (Gaylord Grapevine)
Randi Marie Jones, BSN, RN , Unit 54, The University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, KS
Elizabeth Rose Beck, BSN, RN , Labor and Delivery, The University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, KS

Discipline: Neonatal (N), Women’s Health (WH)

Learning Objectives:
  • Introduce the TUKH OB Application. Identify the sections of the TUKH OB Application.
  • Identify the ability of the cell phone application to provide accurate, immediate access to important information for our nurses. Describe and identify improvement in quality, safe nursing care through use of the cell phone application.
  • Identify unit specific process and compliance improvements with easier access to hospital policies and procedures. Analyze data from evaluation of the cell phone application from our nurse's.

  • Submission Description:
Coming off of orientation as a new graduate nurse can be an intimidating and overwhelming endeavor. Similarly, it can be a daunting task for seasoned nurses to keep up with the ever changing policies and procedures in the hospital. We have created a handy cell phone application that resembles an information pocket guide that is always at our Labor/Delivery/Recovery nurse’s fingertips while keeping the information locked and only visible to our nurse’s eyes.
