Title: G2 - Acute Fatty Liver in Pregnancy: The Great Imitator

Learning Objectives:
  • At the end of the session, the participant will be able to describe the genetic component and pathophysiology of Acute Fatty Liver in pregnancy.
  • At the end of the session, the participant will be able to compare the physical findings and lab values of Acute Fatty Liver to more common diagnoses in high risk pregnancies.
  • At the end of the session, the participant will be able to discuss the intra-partum and postpartum management of the woman with Acute Fatty Liver and the assessment of the newborn for AFL complications.

  • Submission Description:
    This is an overview of the pathophysiology, symptoms, diagnosis and nursing management of a woman with acute fatty liver disease in pregnancy. A comparison with pre-eclampsia and HELLP will be discussed. Specialty testing in the newborn and postpartum surveillance will be presented.
